So you didn’t make it to this year’s Ball and Auction? Well you are just in luck! You can still bid on a few select items remaining for a bidder to take items home. Be sure to look through the attachment in today’s paper BUZZ. If you see something you want, send in your bid to the development office. You will be contacted if you win the bid. Be sure to look at the Middle School Lock-In and Ms. Gemo’s photography class. There are slots available … your child will get to come just by signing up and donating the minimum bid. That’s right…more than one child can win! Email principal Gemo with questions at rgemo@stbenedict.com.

THIS DATE: The Second Annual PK-8
Portfolio Night is May 8th from 5:30-8PM As you may know, SBES introduced portfolios in grades Preschool through
Grade 8 last year. Teachers have been
designing lessons with authentic, creative and real-life assessments for
students to complete. These contents of
the portfolios have been aligned with state standards as well as the
Archdiocese of Chicago curriculum. Parents will have an opportunity to go through the portfolio with their
child as he/she provides a summary of skills/knowledge gained throughout the
year. Students will also set goals for
the coming school year as these portfolios will be passed on to their next
teachers. Please look in your children’s
backpack for your scheduled portfolio conference time and more information
about what happens on this night. Parents of middle school students were mailed
invitations last week.

out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.

Important State Funding Information!
In January, the Illinois State Legislature passed Senate
Bill 783, which included a provision that allows nonpublic schools – such as
the Schools of St. Benedict – access to the $75 million Educational Improvement
and School Safety Block Grant. This
means that for the first time ever schools can be reimbursed directly from the
state for money spent on various health and safety measures. For St. Benedict Elementary
School
This is a great step forward for all nonpublic schools and it is important that we thank our government officials for supporting this legislation. Please take just a couple of minutes to e-mail thank you letters to the governor and the legislators in our district. The letters are below. There you will find addresses for the applicable officials. If you choose not to write your own letter, feel free to cut and paste the letters you find on the website into an e-mail and send to the governor, senator, and representative listed.
